Alberto Ferreras is a New York based author, born in Madrid, Spain, and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. He moved to New York in 1990 after a successful career in journalism and theater.
While living in Venezuela he wrote the play “Vanálisis” (1985) based on the works of Jorge Luis Borges; he directed “Los Reyes” by Julio Cortazar (1989,) and he wrote and directed “En Una Noche Tan Linda Como Esa” (1990)–a live interactive spoof of the popular Miss Venezuela contest.
In New York he worked as a producer for MTV Networks and HBO promoting high profile films, documentaries and series for the U.S. general market. He also created “Habla” a popular series of documentaries for HBO Latino, and co-developed the animated series “El Perro y El Gato” for HBO Family.
He’s a songwriter as well. His Spanish version of the song “What it Feels Like For A Girl” (Lo Que Siente La Mujer) was included in Madonna’s “Drowned World Tour” and performed for millions of fans around the world.
As a journalist, he has collaborated with The Miami Herald (El Nuevo Herald), Gay City News in New York, Distrikt Magazine, and Venezuela’s most important publications including El Universal, El Nacional, Producto, Primicia, and Estilo.
In 2010 he received the International Latino Book Award, category Best Popular Fiction-English, for his first novel “B as in Beauty” (Grand Central Publishing, 2009).
Since 2005 he joined as partner of Latino Media Works, a production company that specializes in programming for—and about—Latinos in the U.S.
He is currently working on his second novel.
